Final Prediction

I do not believe that leather will ever completely go out of style. I think leather accessories are a fashion staple. I do think that the larger leather apparel items, such as leather shirts, skirts, and pants will eventually fade out, but I don't foresee that happening anytime soon. Macy's fashion and product office's executive vice-president, Tim Baxter, says, "I absolutely believe that leather and leather trims are here for a while. I feel like we're very early in the cycle of leather...It's a bigger investment piece than a throwaway trend, and that should indicate it's a trend that will last." Leather appears in so many different categories, that is is difficult to pinpoint its exact stage in the fashion cycle, but I also agree that it is early in the cycle and will continue to grow as a trend.

It would be easy to assume that leather would die out in the spring and summer and reemerge in the fall when it is cooler out. However, designers have put leather in their summer and spring collections and retailers are putting it in their stores. Many designers also featured it in their fall collections. Leather is made in so many different colors, textures, and designs that it is appealing to many different demographics. It has changed to become more wearable in the warmer months. Some of these changes include trends such as colored leather and thin perforated leather. Furthermore, leather is now sold at many different price points and vegan leather is developing to look and feel more like real level, but at a less expensive price.

I think that the leather trend is going to last through the warmer months and into next fall and winter. I think we have seen a lot of leather recently, but I haven't seen anything to over the top, so I think we still have awhile to go before this trend goes out of style.
